If you wear prescription eyeglasses because you’re farsighted-you have difficulty seeing objects that are up close, your single pair of prescription eye glasses will correct the problem. However, your vision will change over time and your prescription will have to be adjusted accordingly. Around age 40, most people develop a vision problem called presbyopia. Presbyopia, a condition in which the lens loses its flexibility, is a vision problem that makes it difficult to see objects that are close to our eyes. This happens because the lenses in the eyes lose their flexibility. When you have farsightedness and presbyopia, you will need to correct this by either getting 2 pairs of eyeglasses that correct each individual vision problem or you could get one pair of eye glasses that contain bifocals instead. If you notice any changes in vision, we highly recommend that you make an appointment with one of our optometrists at Vista Vision Optical. One of our expert optometrists will do a thorough eye examination and will discuss your options with you. Once you decide which option would be right for you, you will receive your prescription and one of our professional optometrists at our

Eyeglasses that contain bifocal lenses allow you to see clearly at two different distance ranges through one lens. The word “bifocal” means two focuses. Bifocals are not new. In fact, Benjamin Franklin is credited for inventing the first bifocal lens by gluing two lens halves from two different prescriptions together. Bifocals have their advantages. If you opt for 2 separate pairs of eyeglasses, you would need to wear one pair for activities that require long distance vision and the other for reading and viewing objects that require viewing objects that are in close range. Bifocals eliminate that problem. Bifocals have two corrective lenses on each side of a pair of glasses (a total of 4 lenses), which contain 2 different lens powers. The lower part works to correct your near vision. The top portion of the lens is for your distance vision. When using eyeglasses with bifocal lenses, you would look up through the distance portion of the lens when looking at things that are far away. You would look down through the bifocal part of the lens when you are focusing on objects that are nearby (within 18 inches) and when you’re focusing on reading materials. You will, however, need to get used to shifting the focus of your eyes upward or down based on what you are doing. Some people are able to adjust to this while others find it difficult to do.
